Nissan LEAF 2022 – Nissan Connect App Setup UK

Green Futures Random

Nissan don’t make it that obvious but the Nissan LEAF 2022 should use the “Nissan Connect” app and not the “Nissan Connect EV” app. It turns out that the “Nissan Connect EV” app only works with pre-2019 Nissan LEAF and Nissan NV200 Vans, if you have a later version of these vehicles you’ll need to setup these to use the “Nissan Connect” app.

The setup for this is fairly straight forward; however you must ensure first:

  1. Your LEAF is in an area with mobile signal (it needs to connect while you do the setup).
  2. Your smartphone won’t suddenly swap networks, its recommended to switch off WiFi to force being on mobile data. I had problems during my setup when I went out of my house WiFi range while trying to set it up.

Setup Guide

  1. Sitting in your LEAF ensure the car is turned on and in Park.
  2. Using the infotainment system you can find under “Nissan Connect Settings” the QR code for downloading the app, alternatively go to the Apple or Android app store and search for “Nissan Connect”, NOT “Nissan Connect EV” this is no longer valid for the later models of LEAF.
  3. Download and install the app.
  4. Register for an account (you’ll need to confirm your account using an email confirmation).
  5. Once registered log into the app.
  6. Click on “Add Car”.
  7. Enter the VIN number, you can find this via the Infotainment menu, alternatively it is visible from the outside to the right hand side of the front windscreen (when standing looking at the front of the car).
  8. You can scan using your phone’s camera or manually enter the VIN, for me I had to manually enter the VIN into the app.
  9. You’ll then be prompted for a code, the app will instruct you to look in the infotainment menu for the code, note there appears to be two “Nissan Connect” buttons within the infotainment menu in different places: one looks a bit more grey, one is more blue you need to use the slight more blue one, but this should become obvious.
  10. Once you have entered the code, it should say the car is registering, this may take a few hours to complete, in my case it was done in about 5 minutes.

You should then be able to login to the app and see the status of the LEAF.

Some common issues:

  • If the car is second hand, the previous owner will need to de-register the car from their account before you can add it to your Nissan Connect account.
  • If you are having issues registering ensure your car and phone are within service areas for data.
  • Perform the setup from your phone on the same network, i.e. make sure you are either fully on WiFi or fully on mobile data, if you switch half way through you’ll have problems.
