{"id":617,"date":"2016-06-13T20:44:00","date_gmt":"2016-06-13T20:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geekmungus.co.uk\/?p=617"},"modified":"2022-11-05T10:53:19","modified_gmt":"2022-11-05T10:53:19","slug":"exchange-2010-cant-delete-mailbox-database","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/?p=617","title":{"rendered":"Exchange 2010 &#8211; Can&#8217;t Delete Mailbox Database"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While doing some housekeeping on an Exchange 2010 server, I needed to delete a mailbox database but couldn&#8217;t getting the error shown below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PROBLEM:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mailbox database &#8216;Mailbox Database 2 G-L&#8217; cannot be deleted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mailbox Database 2 G-L<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Failed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Error:This mailbox database contains one or more mailboxes, mailbox plans, archive mailboxes, or arbitration mailboxes. To get a list of all mailboxes in this database, run the command Get-Mailbox -Database &lt;Database ID&gt;. To get a list of all mailbox plans in this database, run the command Get-MailboxPlan. To get a list of archive mailboxes in this database, run the command Get-Mailbox -Database &lt;Database ID&gt; -Archive. To get a list of all arbitration mailboxes in this database, run the command Get-Mailbox -Database &lt;Database ID&gt; -Arbitration. To disable a non-arbitration mailbox so that you can delete the mailbox database, run the command Disable-Mailbox &lt;Mailbox ID&gt;. To disable an archive mailbox so you can delete the mailbox database, run the command Disable-Mailbox &lt;Mailbox ID&gt; -Archive. Arbitration mailboxes should be moved to another server; to do this, run the command New-MoveRequest &lt;parameters&gt;. If this is the last server in the organization, run the command Disable-Mailbox &lt;Mailbox ID&gt; -Arbitration DisableLastArbitrationMailboxAllowed to disable the arbitration mailbox. Mailbox plans should be moved to another server; to do this, run the command Set-MailboxPlan &lt;MailboxPlan ID&gt; -Database &lt;Database ID&gt;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>RESOLUTION:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ll find there is some mailbox(es) still on the database, but they may not be visible via the GUI.
