If you wish to use plug-in solar within the UK, once installed you need to notify to your DNO (Distribution Network Operator), this will vary depending on where you are within the UK. The documentation here was correct at the time of writing, I urge you to check the current status and not rely fully on this documentation, its written as what I needed to do at the time of my application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You need to have notified your DNO within 28-days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The G98 Notification is valid for “micro-generators” up to 3.68 kW (16A @230V), see also: https:\/\/connections.nationalgrid.co.uk\/g98-connection-procedures\/<\/a> beyond this you need G99 or others, but that is beyond the scope of this document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The G98 is a connect and notify, so you can have your solar PV installed before notification, and then notify thereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You first need to lookup your device on the ENA, which you can find here: https:\/\/connect-direct.energynetworks.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n You’ll need the ENA number to complete the form, this is a unique identifier of your particular model of equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My local DNO is UK Power Networks, although they had some information on their website I struggled to find the on-line template so emailed: MBX-g98notifications@ukpowernetworks.co.uk<\/a> and they sent me an up to date template to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once completed I emailed back to the email address for processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In my case my installation was hard-wired by an electrician, but if you have self-installed, plugged in; you can write and complete it yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You’ll also need to supply the MPAN number of your electricity meter. You can find this on your electricity bill and\/or within the customer portal of your energy provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I didn’t need to submit a drawing, nor was it requested on the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After around 5 working days, the confirmation was returned that my G98 notification was complete. I was also supplied with an export MPAN number, this once supplied to your energy provider and with an appropriate tariff is required for you to be able to receive export payments for any power you don’t use locally in your home and return to the grid as excess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And that was it, nothing more was required.
