{"id":517,"date":"2013-01-11T16:51:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T16:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geekmungus.co.uk\/?p=517"},"modified":"2022-11-05T10:53:19","modified_gmt":"2022-11-05T10:53:19","slug":"windows-server-2008-r2-setup-fails-setup-was-unable-to-create-a-new-system-partition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/?p=517","title":{"rendered":"Windows Server 2008 R2 Setup Fails: &#8220;setup was unable to create a new system partition&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a Dell PowerEdge R710 had this error when trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Setup.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PROBLEM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fails when selecting the disk: &#8220;setup was unable to create a new system partition.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All seems to be fine up until that point then it just fails. Even booting from the Dell utility CD gives the same problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CAUSE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It turned out to be two separate things, one is the &#8220;Virtualisation Technologies&#8221; setting, and the other is the internal vFlash card. If either of these is enabled it seems to cause it to fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SOLUTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start the BIOS of the server then do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Processor Settings-&gt;Virtualization Technologies-&gt; Set to Disabled<\/li><li>Integrated Devices-&gt;Internal SD Card Port-&gt; Off<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now restart the setup and you should have no problems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a Dell PowerEdge R710 had this error when trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Setup.&nbsp; PROBLEM Fails when selecting the disk: &#8220;setup was unable to create a new system partition.&#8221; All seems to be fine up until that point then it just fails.
