{"id":4418,"date":"2025-04-02T11:22:32","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T11:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/?p=4418"},"modified":"2025-04-02T11:22:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T11:22:34","slug":"install-openssl-on-microsoft-windows-10-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/?p=4418","title":{"rendered":"Install OpenSSL on Microsoft Windows 10\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to use OpenSSL on Microsoft Windows, there are a number of packages provided that allow you to do this, in this example we&#8217;ll use Shinning Light Production&#8217;s OpenSSL MSI Package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1 &#8211; Download and Install OpenSSL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Download the installer from: <a href=\"https:\/\/slproweb.com\/products\/Win32OpenSSL.html\">https:\/\/slproweb.com\/products\/Win32OpenSSL.html<\/a>, I used Win64 OpenSSL v3.3.3 Light, but there may be later versions available when you try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perform the installation of OpenSSL, once installed by default it places OpenSSL.exe in the C:\\Program Files\\OpenSSL-Win64\\bin\\ directory. You can run it from here, but you can also add it to your path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2 &#8211; Add OpenSSL to Your Path<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assuming you don&#8217;t have administrative rights on your Windows PC, you can still change the path, just search for: &#8220;Edit environment variables for your account&#8221;, then click on the &#8220;Settings&#8221; option, you&#8217;ll be shown this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"626\" height=\"592\" src=\"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image.png 626w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-300x284.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Click on &#8220;Path&#8221; in the top box, then &#8220;Edit&#8221;.
