The following example details how this can be completed. The following was used to complete the testing and proof of operation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Extreme Networks 7720-32C (FabricEngine: 8.10.2.0)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extreme Networks X620-16x (ExtremeXOS version 22.6.1.4 22.6.1.4-patch1-1):<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 x Extreme Networks Compatible Skeleton Adapter (QSFP+)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 x Extreme Networks Compatible SFP+ LR Transceiver<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this example 100Gbit QSFP28 interface which allows 100 or 40Gbit operation and which has inserted a QSFP+ (40Gbit) Skeleton adapter into which an SFP+ 10Gbit transceiver is inserted, is now split\/parition\/channelise into 4 x 10Gbit (SFP+), of which 1 x 10Gbit (SFP+) is available for use; the Skeleton adapter masks the other 3 channels and only allows 1 channel of 10Gbit SFP+ to be available for use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a QSFP28 skeleton adapter it is possible to split\/partition\/channelise into 4 x 25Gbit (SFP28), but this was not tested or verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"PortPartitioning\/ChannelisingExtremeNetworksVOSSFabricEngineSwitch-PhysicalConnection\">Physical Connection<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connect the SFP+ module into the QSFP+ Skeleton adapter, then insert into the Extreme Networks VOSS\/FabricEngine switch port, connect the cable, then insert the Extreme Networks XOS\/SwitchEngine transceiver into that switch port as normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"766\" src=\"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1024x766.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4050\" style=\"width:391px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1024x766.png 1024w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-768x574.png 768w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1536x1149.png 1536w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-136x102.png 136w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image.png 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"766\" src=\"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1-1024x766.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4051\" style=\"width:391px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1-1024x766.png 1024w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1-768x574.png 768w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1-1536x1149.png 1536w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1-136x102.png 136w, https:\/\/geekmungus.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/image-1.png 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"PortPartitioning\/ChannelisingExtremeNetworksVOSSFabricEngineSwitch-ExtremeNetworksVOSS\/FabricEngineSwitchConfiguration\">Extreme Networks VOSS\/FabricEngine Switch Configuration<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Configure the port for channelisation (partition):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><code>int gig 1\/9<\/code><code>channelize enable<\/code><code>exit<\/code><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ll see this message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><code>Enabling channelization on port 1\/9. Subport 1\/9\/1 will inherit port 1\/9 configuration. Subports 2,3,4 will use default config.\u00a0 QSFP will be reset as removal and re-insert.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0NOTE: Modify QOS configurations on all subports as required.Do you wish to continue (y\/n) ? y<\/code><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ll now notice that on the Extreme Networks VOSS Switch, one flashing light above the port has now changed to 4, representing each channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike\u00a0XOS\u00a0SwitchEngine\u00a0no switch reboot is required&#8230;yay! However, you may need to remove and reinsert the skeleton adapter and\u00a0GBIC\u00a0to reset the port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When using a &#8220;show interface\u00a0gigabitethernet\u00a0name&#8221;, you&#8217;ll now see the port channelised\/partitioned into 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>1\/9\/1             10GbLR              up       full     10000    Access\r\n1\/9\/2             100GbNone-Channel   down     half     0        Access\r\n1\/9\/3             100GbNone-Channel   down     half     0        Access\r\n1\/9\/4             100GbNone-Channel   down     half     0        Access<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any configuration required to the port is now made to the 1\/9\/1 interface, rather than the 1\/9 interface. To\u00a0unconfigure\u00a0a port for channelisation\/partitioning perform the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><code>int gig 1\/9\/1<\/code><code>no channelize enable<\/code><code>exit<\/code><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ll see the following, and the port will be returned to its original\u00a0un-channelised\u00a0state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><code>Disabling channelization on port 1\/9 will remove subports 2,3,4 including configuration parameters. Port 1\/9 will inherit subport 1\/9\/1 configuration. QSFP will be reset as removal and re-insert.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0NOTE: Modify QOS configurations on port 1\/9 as required.Do you wish to continue (y\/n) ? y<\/code><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"PortPartitioning\/ChannelisingExtremeNetworksVOSSFabricEngineSwitch-ExtremeNetworksXOS\/SwitchEngineSwitchConfiguration\">Extreme Networks XOS\/SwitchEngine Switch Configuration<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No additional configuration is required to enable the link and its operation with a channelised\/partitioned port.
